Unit 4, Lesson 14: Peer Editing
Learning Target: I can peer edit another student's argument essay.
Class Activities:
1. The kids pranced in, exciting to be back at school (sarcasm).
2. They picked a do now half-sheet as they walked in. (If you were absent, don't worry about it.). The do now was a short paragraph. I asked them to practice editing by looking for things the excerpt did well and things the excerpt didn't do well.
3. About half the students had their rough drafts, and the other half didn't. The half that had their rough drafts exchanged with another student, edited using the attached sheet, then gave comments, etc. The other half continued work on their essays.
I would like to note that the past 4-5 lessons have been very loosely structured, with lots of self-directed work. Some students are handling this awesomely, and some are not. This is reflected in their grades, and I'm willing to bet it will be reflected in their final paper quality.
Papers handed in today:
None, but I walked around checked the research page, outline, and rough draft.
Homework:
Final paper due Wednesday! (Thursday for Section 3)
I'm attaching the rubric again, just in case!
