Unit 2, Lesson 8: Discussing the Big Bang
Learning Target: I can support my opinion of the Big Bang with evidence
Class Activities:
1. Students picked up two handouts, "Discussing the Big Bang" and "Big Bang Self-Assessment".
2. Each student shared the information he/she learned from Unit 2, Lesson 7. Students took notes on the front of the "Discussing the Big Bang" sheet.
3. Students free wrote a response to part 2, which once again asks them to analyze the validity of the Big Bang Theory. They should do this using the four methods of claim analysis we learned: Logic, Authority, Intuition, and Evidence. Students can think whatever they want, but they need to use or address evidence we've learned over the past few lessons.
4. We had a class discussion and shared our responses to part 2. Students took notes on what other students said in Part 3. I evaluated student's ability to support their opinion with an evidence-based explanation, and this is going in as an assessment grade. If students didn't speak, that's fine, but then I'll be assessing their response to part 2.
Papers handed in today:
Questioning the Big Bang handout.
Homework:
Finish the "Big Bang Discussion Self-Assessment" sheet. Use the "Discussing the Big Bang" sheet to help them fill out the BBDSA sheet.
