Unit 7, Lesson 31: Gupta Empire Overview
Learning Target: I can explain important concepts about the Gupta Empire
Class Activities:
1. Students came in and took an "Overview of Gupta" worksheet. The do now was to complete Part 1, which was a fill-in-the-blank paragraph about Hinduism. The answers are:
Hinduism believes that every living thing has a soul inside it, called the atman. You can build up good karma by performing good deeds and fulfilling your duties, or dharma. Every living thing has a different duty, depending on what it is.
If you have good karma when you die, you will be reincarnated into a higher life form. This happens over and over, in a process called samsara. Eventually, you will achieve moksha. You will no longer be reborn; instead, your atman will rejoin the supreme power, Brahman.
2. As a class, we went over the do now and the caste system. I don't really need you to know the social order, just that the untouchables are at the bottom. We discussed how this idea of "untouchables" related to both social classes and religion.
3. The class grabbed textbooks and worked individually to complete the back of the handout.
