Unit 7, Lesson 8: Aquaculture Socratic Seminar
Learning Target: I can participate in a Socratic Seminar about aquaculture and world hunger
Class Activities:
1. Students came in and picked up an "Socratic Seminar" handout. The chairs were arranged in two circles-- 1 inner circle, and 1 outer circle.
2. The students discussed our essential question-- "Is aquaculture the most promising solution to the world hunger crisis?" The inner group spoke for the first half of class, and the second group spoke for the 2nd half of class. It was so fun. I love Socratic Seminars.
3. We left 5 minutes at the end to collect homework, complete worksheets, etc.
Papers handed in today:
Investigating Aquaculture worksheet (the research page from the previous lesson)
Pros/Cons of Aquaculture worksheet (from when we visited MAST)
Homework:
Finish Socratic Seminar worksheet
Optional Assignment: 1 Paragraph with evidence answering the essential question ("Is aquaculture the most promising solution to the world hunger crisis?" This is meant for people who didn't speak much in the Socratic Seminar, and is required for absent students.
All late homework is due Monday. After that it will not be accepted.
