Unit 2, Lesson 2: Changing Views of the Universe, Day 1
Learning Target: I can create a story arc that traces how thinking about the Universe has advanced over time.
Class Activities:
1. For the Do Now, students took out a piece of loose leaf and answered the following question: "Are people today smarter than people of the past?" We then discussed different answers. This deals with today's lesson, because we're looking at how our universe has changed over time, and what evidence it was based on.
2. Students were split into pairs and assigned a pair of astronomers-- either Ptolemy/Galileo or Copernicus/Newton. Each pair chose one of the two astronomers to read about (using the 3 reads method) and fill out a timeline of the astronomer's life. The rest of the period was free work.
Papers handed in today:
None
Homework:
Finish 3 Reads of one astronomer (if you were absent, just choose one of the four astronomers to read about) & Timeline
