Unit 5, Lesson 7: Design a Species
Learning Target: I can create a species that demonstrates my knowledge of evolution and natural selection.
Class Activities:
1. The kids walked in and helped me pass out a ton of graded homework.
2. They took a do now quiz on evolution. I'll take the higher of the two do now quizzes we've had this marking period.
3. We went over the requirements and rubric for this unit's final assessment. You shall design me a species! Lots of questions were asked, but some of the most common ones were:
No you cannot just use an existing animal, but yes you can combine or "improve" existing animals.
No you cannot choose "human"
Yes you can use a made up creature. No it cannot be a mermaid (no humans!)
4. I answered approximately 1 billion questions. The remainder of the time was spent brainstorming, sketching ideas, and running ideas past me.
Papers handed in today:
Do now quiz. Also, I'll check the biomes worksheet tomorrow.
Homework:
Final species project is due Monday, January 25th. Come in to tomorrow's class with a list of 3 questions you want to research on the computer. The more specific, the better.
