Unit 4, Lesson 9: Geology & Earth
Learning Target: I can explain how Earth's layers make it uniquely situated for life.
Class Activities:
1. Students came in and took a "Geology & Earth" handout. There was no do now.
2. We watched the first five minutes of the below clip and answered the questions for #1:
a). Earth is about 4.5 billion years old
b). Four challenges humans would face on Early Earth are: lack of oxygen, radiation, lava everywhere, and asteroids hitting constantly.
c). In the saucepan example, the heavier stuff sinks to the bottom of the pan, and the lighter stuff floats to the surface. Some stuff evaporates
and hovers above the saucepan. This is just like our Earth, with the heaviest elements like iron and nickel sinking to the core, and the lighter
elements like hydrogen rising into (and beyond) the atmosphere.
d). A diagram of the Earth's layers is in the attached powerpoint.
3. In pairs, students went through a powerpoint and answered the questions.
Papers handed in today:
Sections 3 & 4 handed in their brochures
Homework:
