Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to Harbor! My name is Kelly Harvey, and I’ll be teaching 9thgrade Global History during this 2015-2016 school year. The purpose of 9th grade Global History is to strengthen students’ academic skills, including critical reading and developing claims. My hope is that students find ways to take these skills out of the classroom and into their own lives.
We will be trying a curriculum called Big History, which looks at the origin of the universe and our place in it. I’m looking forward to some provocative, explorative discussions with the students. That being said, I understand that this exploration will lead us to discussions of sensitive issues, including religion, race, and class group. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have questions, concerns, or suggestions about the topics or lessons.
Please take a moment to read the course syllabus, which explains my goals for the course more fully, as well as important policies. Both guardian and student signatures are requested to indicate you’ve read the syllabus fully and are aware of the requirements and expectations of this course. If you’re interested in a more thorough background of myself or our daily activities and assignments, I strongly recommend you bookmark my course website: http://kellyharveyhistory.weebly.com and the portal to check your student’s grade: www.pupilpath.com.
Again, if you have any questions or comments, feel free to get in touch. Throughout the year, I also welcome you to be in touch on a regular basis to discuss student progress.
