Unit 9, Lesson 5: Global Capitalism
Learning Target: I can discuss solutions to global poverty
Class Activities:
1. Students walked in; there was no handout.
2. We verbally reviewed capitalism and socialism, and I pulled up a world map that showed global wealth. Check out the file below. We discussed why some countries were poorer than others, and whether or not it was our responsibility to help them. If so, what's the best way to help?
3. I played a podcast clip about GiveDirectly, a nonprofit that gives cash directly to poor people in Kenya. Before playing it, we debated the merits of simply giving cash away. We listened from 15:30 to 35:30, then discussed afterwards. Click here for the link.
