Lesson 7: Investigating Aquaculture
Learning Target: I can independently research a question about aquaculture.
Class Activities:
1. Students came in and picked up an "Investigating Aquaculture" handout. There was no do now, but we had students discuss with each other the questions they wanted to investigate today, then shared with the class. Basically, the point of today is prepare for the socratic seminar on Friday. What information do you want to learn to add to the Socratic Seminar? Some questions/topics the kids came up with were:

- How many farmed fish are produced each year versus the number of wild fish caught?
- What kind of diseases can occur in farmed fish, since they're so close together?
- Are lots of people allergic to seafood?
- Can aquaculture create more jobs?
- Are there regulations for aquaculture in different countries? (U.S. and China, maybe?)
- How are fish preserved/transported?
- Which is healthier, farmed fish or wild caught fish?
- Are chemicals added to farmed fish?
- How can aquaculture affect the environment?
